What operators miss in Mississippi
- Every organization or online business that offers telehealth to Mississippi patients must register with the State Department of Health, Office of Licensure, before providing services, and renew every two years (15 Miss. Admin. Code pt. 16, subpt. 1, ch. 6).
- The entity registration lists each clinician treating Mississippi patients by name, profession and license number.
- Asynchronous-only models do not fit the board rule that store-and-forward can never replace real-time interaction.
Does Mississippi have a telehealth registration for out-of-state clinicians?
Board rules allow only clinicians with a valid Mississippi license to practice telemedicine on patients in Mississippi; there is no separate telehealth registration for out-of-state clinicians.
- No telehealth-specific registration: a clinician needs the full license or an exception.
Citation: Miss. Code Ann. § 73-25-34; 30 Miss. Admin. Code pt. 2635, R. 5.2
When can an out-of-state clinician treat Mississippi patients without a Mississippi license?
A Mississippi license is not needed when a Mississippi-licensed physician who already treats the patient requests the out-of-state physician's evaluation, treatment or opinion. Out-of-state interpretation of lab and pathology studies is allowed if a Mississippi licensee controls the result.
- Exception for consultation with a licensed physician

Can a patient relationship start by telehealth in Mississippi?
A valid relationship requires identity verification, an appropriate history and exam, a diagnosis, informed discussion of options, follow-up availability and a complete record. The exam need not be in person if the technology gives equivalent information. Audio-only is allowed where medically appropriate.
- Audio-only can establish the relationship
- Asynchronous care cannot establish the relationship

Does Mississippi require telehealth consent?
Board rule says a provider should obtain informed consent before care by telemedicine, including how to get follow-up care after an adverse reaction or equipment failure.
Citation: 30 Miss. Admin. Code pt. 2635, R. 5.3
What limits does Mississippi put on prescribing by telehealth?
A simple questionnaire without an appropriate exam violates board policy and can lead to discipline. Store-and-forward may supplement but never replace real-time interaction, and automated dispensaries may not dispense controlled substances.
- Questionnaire-only prescribing is prohibited
- A controlled substance prescription based solely on an online questionnaire is invalid. The statute's one in-person evaluation rule exempts prescriptions by a practitioner practicing telemedicine as authorized under state or federal law.
Citation: Miss. Code Ann. § 41-29-137; 30 Miss. Admin. Code pt. 2635, R. 5.5, 5.9
Does Mississippi require its own controlled-substance registration?

- Private-payer telehealth coverage law
